Stay tuned for the announcement of the next Instructors' Class.

The Goal
To improve the level of instructional quality among those teaching JKA-style Shotokan Karate in the Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bay Area.

Typical Class Schedule
One 30-minute session - usually an interactive, light workout; often involving group discussion and/or lecture
Two 1-hour sessions - physical workout; possibly kata practice, kumite strategy, steps to teaching a given technique, etc.
The focus of the classes is on improving teaching skill and technical skill and understanding.

Who
All JKA-style black belt-holders are welcome to attend, regardless of organization/affiliation. For some sessions, non-Shotokan black belts are also welcome (please contact JKASV chief instructor Jon Keeling if interested). Instructors are chosen from among those who have attained a high level of teaching skill; not just those with "years-in" and/or popularity.

Cost: $15 for the entire 2.5 hours of classes.

Past classes and instructors.

If you are interested in leading a session, please submit a short proposal of class subject, general class structure, etc. as early as possible. Instructors are chosen about one month prior to the class. Of each $15 paid by participants, $6 would go to each instructor of 1-hour classes and $3 to 30-minute instructor(s); or, $1 for each 10 minutes.

Each instructor also puts $15 in for the classes, as (s)he is also learning from the other instructors.
