Kick-a-Thon 2007!

With the 2005 Kick-a-Thon and 2006 Kick-a-Thon such great successes, both for the participants and for the charities involved, JKA of Silicon Valley organized the 2007 year end Kick-a-Thon.

Again the kick-a-thon benefitted important charities. Participants attempted to perform 2008 karate front kicks in one session. This is very challenging. Even those not able to complete all 2008 repetitions were encouraged to do his or her best -- both to help with fund-raising and to challenge themselves.

As in past years, dojos around the globe participated, with the whole thing coordinated by the Japan Karate Association of Silicon Valley, headquartered in Redwood City, California.

At the Redwood City location, specifically, the kick-a-thon took place on December 27th from 7-9pm.

The American Red Cross benefited from the Redwood City event. Funds raised for the Red Cross were donated among:

Disaster Relief Fund
Helps the victims of thousands of disasters across the country each year like wildfires, floods, and hurricanes. The Red Cross uses these funds to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disasters.

International Response Fund
Helps the American Red Cross to provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to victims of crises around the world like the cyclone in Bangladesh or the floods in Mexico.

Where the Need Is Greatest
This allows the American Red Cross to decide how to allocate funds to provide relief to victims of disasters, collect and supply blood for those in need and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

If you would like to make a donation to benefit the Red Cross, please contact event coordinator Jon Keeling. Donations on a per-kick basis or lump-sum are both welcome.
